Hardware Requirements

Netify requires modest hardware/virtual resources. For small networks, Netify can run on embedded systems like the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4 running OpenWrt - 256MB of RAM, 1 core, and just a few megabytes of storage to install the software.

For medium-sized networks with sustained network utilization from 50 to 100 Mbps, we recommend:

  • Minimum 1 GB RAM
  • Ideally 1 CPU core per port
  • Minimum 2 network interfaces (at least one physical)

Gateway/Firewall

Installing Netify on a gateway is ideal in that there's no extra hardware required and the gateway is typically a great place to see interesting traffic as it egresses your network.

To see if your particular hardware appliance is supported, head over to the Get Netify page and browser the options under Supported Firewalls and Gateways.

Span/Mirror Port

Another popular way to ingest network flow data is to mirror it from a device that routes traffic for the network segment. In this case, you can install the Netify agent on a Linux host of your choice.

To see if your particular operating system is supported, head over to the Get Netify page and browser the options under Mirror/Span Port and Virtual Machines.
