Device Discovery
Device Discovery is Step One to Increased Security
We’re more connected than we’ve ever been – and that’s just our devices. The number of network-connected devices, or “Internet of Things” is exploding. The big question is, do you really know what devices are connecting to your network right now?
Netify’s device discovery utility identifies all devices communicating within the local network in near real-time and on a continual basis. This lets administrators keep tabs on anything from static, mainstay devices like desktops, printers and routers, to more “transient” devices, like smartphones and tablets, that regularly come and go from the network.

Getting a full, detailed inventory of what’s on your network is not only best practice, but the first step towards understanding and managing potential cybersecurity risks from suspicious or unknown devices.
Identify, Track and Classify Devices in the Cloud
Netify’s device discovery utility uses a mix of machine learning and cloud-based analytics to gather information about devices on your network.
- Identifies devices on your network, such as smartphones, printers, laptops, etc.
- Logs first and last seen timestamps
- Classifies each device by type (ex. workstations, laptops, printers, mobile device etc.)
- Provides metadata including operating system, MAC address, MAC vendor, etc.
For example, Netify’s device discovery utility can take cryptic data that doesn’t tell you much – like a MAC address (00:1e:67:19:3e:f6) – and give you the visibility to see the MAC address is from a Dell laptop running Windows 10 that last communicated with the network six minutes ago.
Device discovery also lets end-users tag, classify and associate devices with specific users or groups.
