Reservation Protocol

RSVP is the Resource Reservation Protocol, used by hosts and routers to signal and reserve network resources such as bandwidth for a given traffic flow. Linux has a native handler for this IP protocol.

IP Protocol Status - Active
RSVP was standardized in RFC 2205 (1997) and remains used today, notably as the signaling protocol underlying RSVP-TE for MPLS traffic engineering.
IP Protocol Network Policy
RSVP is used by networks running RSVP or RSVP-TE for bandwidth reservation and MPLS traffic engineering, and is only relevant to routers and hosts participating in that signaling.
