IP Protocols

You can reference the IP protocol ID in flow expressions to accurately identify and control network traffic at the IP protocol layer. The IP protocol information is also provided in several telemetry data formats.

IP Protocol Network Layer

The IP protocol layer represents the specific protocol encapsulated directly within an IP packet - such as a transport protocol like TCP or UDP, or a control protocol like ICMP. The familiar TCP, UDP, and ICMP are just a few of the 100+ IP protocols defined in the Internet protocol number standard summarized below.

As the most fundamental of Netify's network classification layers, IP Protocol provides a baseline classification for every flow, even when the Protocol, Application, and Intelligence layers are not applicable. These higher layers build on that foundation, adding progressively more specific context as the DPI engine analyzes the traffic.
